Eligibility

​

The eligibility rules for this festival are:

1. Students must reside in the state of Maryland.

2. Students must be enrolled in their music educator’s class or lessons for 2023-2024  academic year. 

The music educator must confirm the student(s) eligibility before adjudication will take place. At the conclusion of the submission window, educators will receive a list via email with their students name, grade, instrument/vocal part, and piece performed. Educators will need to reply to the email confirming eligibility.

Music educator membership in MMEA/NAfME is not required but strongly encouraged.

​Submission Deadlines

​

​The Fall 2023 All-Access Virtual Solo & Ensemble Festival submission window is now closed.

​

Extension Requests must be received and approved by the Executive Director of MMEA by October 20, 2023 at 5pm. Extension requests received after this date will not be considered. Please plan to submit at least three days prior to the deadline to allow time for troubleshooting, if needed.

​

​All Festival results will be released to the student’s music educators December 4-8, 2023.

​

Submission Fee

​

​A recommended fee* of $15 for each audition is required at the time of submission. 

​

​All transactions are final and non-refundable.

​

​Invoicing Requests for Educators Only

If a school, school booster, or district wishes to receive an invoice for Fall Solo & Ensemble fees, please contact MMEA at mmeamarylandinfo@gmail.com for the invoice request form.  All invoicing requests must be completed by Monday, October 2, 2023.  All invoiced submission fees will be charged at the recommended $15.

Late Fee Policy - Invoices not paid within 60 days will be assessed a late fee. Invoice totals of $100 or less will be assessed a late fee of $20.00. Invoices over $100, will be assessed a 20% late fee, not to exceed $500.00

​Submission Requirements

​

​All students must abide by the following submission requirements:

​

• The student’s music choice must be approved by the music educator certifying eligibility..

• Students may submit as many recordings on as many instruments/voice parts as they would like. There must be a separate form and fee for each submission. Each recording may only contain one piece of music.

• A copy of the score/sheet music must be uploaded with each submission.

• ​Festival submission recordings will only be accepted through the submission platform. MMEA cannot accept recording submissions by any other form (ex: telephone, mail, fax, or email.)

Special requests for alternative submission formats for accessibility reasons are addressed on a case by case basis, and documentation of disability must be provided. Please complete the MMEA Accessibility Service Form to request accommodations.

​Music Copyright Rules

​

MMEA operates in compliance with the US Copyright Act. Anyone using a photocopy of the music that is not in Public Domain must be accompanied by written verification of permission from the publisher. Music purchased online as digital copies should have clear indication of ownership/performance permission.

All submissions will require an uploaded copy/scan of the score or solo part via a secure portion of the submission form. At the beginning of each recording, students must briefly hold up an original copy of the music, visible to the camera. 

​

​Recording Requirements

​

• Music educators/directors are to review the recording before submission.

• Backgrounds and clothing must not display any identifying information including, but not limited to, students' names, the name of the school or district, school mascot, or location.

• Solo submissions: At the beginning of the recording: the student must state their first name ONLY and the instrument/vocal part OR have a title slide at the beginning of the recording with the student's first name ONLY and instrument/vocal part. DO NOT state last name or name of school/organization.

• Ensemble submissions: At the beginning of the recording, each person should introduce themselves by first name ONLY and instrument/vocal part OR have a title slide at the beginning of the recording listing each student's first name ONLY and instrument/vocal part. DO NOT include the student's last name or the name of the school/organization.

• Only one video file per submission will be accepted online in the following formats: AVI, WMV, MOV, or MP4.  The maximum file size allowed is 2Gb.  Please be aware that the larger the file, the longer it will take to load.

Helpful Tips for Recorded Submissions

​

• Read the recording requirements before beginning recording.

• If possible, reduce any background noise (fans, TV, etc) during the recording.

• View the recording in its entirety before submission to ensure it is complete.

• Save a copy and label it to ensure the correct recording is sent.

• Do not wait until the last minute to submit! Prepare to submit at least three (3) days prior to the submission deadline to allow for technical issues and troubleshooting.​
